It was the oil, dammit!!!

And finally Wolfowitz comes right out and says it, in an speech to delegates at an Asian security summit in Singapore.

Reported in today's German newspapers Der Tagesspiegel and Die Welt, his response to the question why North Korea was being treated so differently from Iraq: "Let's look at it simply. The most important difference between North Korea and Iraq is that economically, we just had no choice in Iraq. The country swims on a sea of oil."

The sickening thing is, there is no outcry. Everyone basically knew this already. Nobody seems to care that a country went to war, invaded another country and is now occupying it, for financial reasons only. Just like it seems the world does not care that the Palestinian diplomats in Baghdad were arrested by US troops and have not been heard of since. This is absolutely unheard of.

Has the world become such a cynical place then? Can the rich and powerful simply do what they want with no repercussions?
